After resting at the Bindusagar ghat for long time and gupshup we walked down the street passing by some interesting buildings. This temple in the middle of the road sunk down below the current level. It is also observed that many Shiv temples here are in a well type of place because Mahadev comes from the Netherworld and hence Pataleshwar.
This old dharmashala looked gorgeous on the banks of the Bindusagar as we walked towards the Anant Basudev mandir.
The Anant Basudev mandir is fascinating because it is the only Vishnu temple in this Shaiva kshetra. It is built on the lines of Jagannath Puri temple. The deities are complete vigraha in stone unlike Jagannath Puri which are incomplete murti in wood. The iconography is clear, Balaram is depicted with Sheshnag over his head, Subhadra with a pot of gold in the hand and a pot of jewel under her foot. Krishna holds the gada and Sudarshan chakra.
We then went to see the kitchen and Anand bazar where the prasad is sold and eaten under the mandap. This is a tradition from Jagannath Puri mandir that is followed across Odisha in all Mandir.
We bought some kheer to taste as we had already had Mahaprasad at Lingaraj. That’s Saswati posing for me. Odia kheer is semi sweet and delicious!
